Buffalo, NY FFs Battle Vacant House Fire

Buffalo firefighters responded to a fully involved, vacant, one and a half-story wood frame house at 111 Koons shortly after 5 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010.First-in Engine 22 reported wires down in the street and an occupied two and a half-story story wood frame house at 109 Koons as an exposure on the #4 side.

First-in Engine 22 reported wires down in the street and an occupied two and a half-story story wood frame house at 109 Koons as an exposure on the #4 side.

Crews pulled hose lines to protect the exposure and to begin to attack the main fire building. Firefighters contained a fire that had spread to the exposure at 109 Koons to the attic. Crews used three 2 1/2 inch handlines and three 1 3/4 inch handlines to extinguish the fire.

Damage to 111 Koons was set at $20,000. The fire caused an additional $20,000 in damage to the home at 109 Koons and $5,000 in damage to a garage. The main fire building collapsed and is slated for emergency demolition. There were no reports of injuries.
