Little Hocking, Ohio Firefighters Battle Church Fire

At 6:40 A.M on March 17, 2005 the Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at the Porterfield Baptist Church in Little Hocking, Ohio.

At 6:40 A.M on March 17, 2005 the Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at the Porterfield Baptist Church in Little Hocking, Ohio.

Upon arrival, crews found the basement of the education wing to be fully involved.

Mutual aid was notified and received from Belpre Volunteer Fire Department, Barlow Volunteer Fire Department, Coolville Volunteer Fire Department, Dunham Township Volunteer Fire Department, Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, and the Kraton Polymers Fire Brigade.

Over sixty firefighters were on scene.

It took nearly six hours for crews to control the fire and another nine hours for overhaul and investigation.

The fire was stopped before spreading to the sanctuary of the building.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office is currently investigating the incident.

One firefighter was transported to an area hospital complaining of chest pain and is currently in stable condition.
