Kittery firefighters responded to a structure fire at 2 Boush St. at about 5 PM on February 25th. Fire Chief Dave O'Brien observed heavy fire coming from the kitchen area when he arrived, just before the first engine company, and quickly struck a 2nd alarm.

Kittery Engine 1 arrived on the scene with a full crew and encountered not only the heavy fire but also had to deal with frigid temperatures hovering in the single digits.

The first in crews attacked the fire and initiated a search of the apartment. They went into the bedroom and found an unresponsive male victim. Upon being removed from the home, emergency crews attempted to revive him at the scene. He was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital by AMR Ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The fire was investigated by the Maine State Fire Marshall's office and the Kittery Fire Department.

The victim's residence was gutted, while the other portion of the duplex sustained water and smoke damage.

The 2 alarm fire brought mutual aid from the Eliot, York & Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the Portsmouth NH FD with New Castle NH FD providing station coverage.
