On Sunday, March 13 at 10:24 AM the Lakeville Emergency Dispatch Center in Lakeville Minnesota received 25, 911 calls reporting a house fire at 16957 Hubbard Trail in North-Central Lakeville.

The large black smoke plume could be seen from all over the city, a suburb of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The first police officers on scene learned that the home had been evacuated and radioed to responding fire units that the attached three-car garage was fully engulfed.

All four of Lakeville's fire stations were dispatched to the scene. Engine 82 from Fire Station #2 arrived first on scene and immediately pulled attack lines. The crew attacked the garage fire and received assistance from Engine 84 from Fire Station #1. Aerial 80 from Fire Station #4 set up in front of the garage and prepared to attack the fire from above. Additional fire units arrived and crews worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

Command called a defensive attack and firefighters were able to surround the home and attack the fire from multiple angles. Engine 82 used the deck gun to spray water on a neighboring home to reduce the damage from radiant heat.

The fire was under control within a half-hour. Fire crews remained on scene for four hours after the initial call doing overhaul, tending to hot spots and assisting investigators.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in the garage, but have not determined the cause yet. The home and the three cars in the garage are a total loss.
