Fire Engulfs Dump Truck On Interstate 70 In Maryland

On March 17th, crews from Funkstown Fire Department were dispatched out for a vehicle fire on Interstate 70 in Washington County.

Funkstown, MD- On March 17th, crews from Funkstown Fire Department were dispatched out for a vehicle fire on Interstate 70 in Washington County.

Washington County Dispatch took several calls reporting a Dump Truck on fire on the Interstate. Funkstown Co. 10 was dispatched along with State police at 2:13 pm. Engine 101 was able to see heavy smoke from several miles away and requested a tanker be sent to the location.

Engine 263 responded to the call. Dispatch took a follow up call from Deputy Chief Chaney from Company 12 confirming a working fire. Engine 101 arrived on location shortly after in the area of the 30 mile marker to find a Dump Truck well off.

Operator Hopkins placed command in effect and reported his findings to Washington County Dispatch. Crews were able to knock down a bulk of the fire within eight minutes of their arrival on the scene. The scene was turned over to Maryland State Police at 2:48 pm at which time Command was terminated. All units were cleared the scene by 2:56 pm.
