Camden, New Jersey firefighters battle their second 2-alarm fire within a 24-hour period. The second incident involved a 2-1/2 story wood frame dwelling on South 42 St. in the East Camden section of the city on March 15, 2005, at 2 PM.

First in units reported heavy smoke showing and All Hands going to work. Rescue 1 and Ladder 3 made a search for occupants and came up negative. Three lines were now working as firefighters made an aggressive interior attack.

Car 3, Dep. Chief Price, struck the second alarm, as the fire was now through the roof. Firefighters were hampered fighting the blaze by six large trees surrounding the dwelling. Three more lines were now in service.

Firefighters were forced to pull out two times due to the roof beginning to cave. Efforts held the fire mainly to the attic area of the home. The first and second floors suffered heavy smoke and water damage.

At 4 PM, the fire was placed under control, and no injuries were reported.

This was the third 2-alarm fire for Camden firefighters in March, and the third All Hands fire. In February, there were 13 All Hands fires, plus three 2-alarm fires. In January, there were 6 All Hands fires, plus one 2-alarm fire. A busy start to 2005 for Camden, New Jersey firefighters.
