Hagerstown, MD - On February 25, 2005 firefighters from Hagerstown and surrounding jurisdictions were called out to assist on a two-alarm blaze in the 100 Block of East Washington Street in Hagerstown.
Initial units from Hagerstown responded around 13:15 hours for a reported apartment Fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a working structure fire. Battalion Chief Dietrich arrived and had Command.
The Emergency Air Unit and a Medic unit were requested to the scene. Crews found themselves battling an apartment fire with heavy extension into the attic. Fire quickly spread causing additional damage to neighboring apartments and buildings.
Red Cross was requested to the scene by Command to assist with placement of several families displaced by the fire.
No serious injuries were reported on the incident.
Command advised Fire Rescue Dispatch that fire was out at 15:38 hours.
City Fire Marshals remained on the scene well into the evening while fire crews were able to begin clearing around 16:00 hours. The incident is under investigation by the Hagerstown Fire marshals office.
Crews on the call consisted of First Hose Co. Eng-1, Antietam Fire Co. Eng-2, Juniors Fire Co. Eng-3, Western Enterprise Eng.4, South End Fire Co. Eng-5, Pioneer Hook & Ladder Truck 1, Longmeadow Fire Co. Truck 27, Funkstown Fire Co. 10, Halfway Fire Co.26, Maugansville Fire Co.13, Community Rescue Service Medic 75, and Washington County Emergency Air Unit 25, Rehab 255, and Special operations. While on the incident, Hagerstown was covered by transfer units from Williamsport Fire Co.2, Clearspring Fire Company 4, and Smithsburg Fire Co.7. Boonsboro Fire Co.6 also assisted in covering Funkstowns area while all their units were tied up on the fire ground in the City.
