Elizabeth, New Jersey Strikes Three Alarms With Heavy Fire Showing

On February 24, 2005 at 12:14 Elizabeth Fire Department transmitted Box 2243 for a reported house fire at 157 E. Jersey Street.

On February 24, 2005 at 12:14 Elizabeth Fire Department transmitted Box 2243 for a reported house fire at 157 E. Jersey Street. Engines 5, 3, 1; Trucks 2, 1; Rescue 1, BC1 & DC1 were dispatched to the scene.

Engine 5 arrived to find heavy fire in a two and a half story wood frame with a one story setback. Fire was blowing out of side "A" and "B."

There were two occupants still reported inside.

Firefighters removed two victims with burns and Elizabeth EMS transported both occupants to SBMC Burn Unit in Livingston, New Jersey.

Chief of the Department Edward Sisk arrived on scene and took command of the fire. Chief Sisk struck the second and third alarms, bringing all Elizabeth Fire Department units. This also brought Union Township E7, T2 and Chief Fretz to the scene.

An interior attack was underway with numerous lines stretched. Firefighters were ordered out of the main fire building due to safety reasons. Exterior lines were set up with Engine 5's deck gun.

After all heavy fire was knocked down, interior attack resumed.

Fire extended to the B exposure (two and a half story wood frame) and lines were stretched into the exposure building.

The fire was placed under control by Chief Sisk and companies continued to operate on scene overhauling.
