The Castle Rock (Colorado) Fire and Rescue department responded to a structure fire at 13:07 hours on Friday, January 31, 2003. Heavy smoke was visible prior to arrival, and the structure had heavy fire involvement upon arrival of the first units.

An immediate request for additional units, including tankers, was relayed. The fire was in an out building structure, next to a residence, which was used for furniture restoration.

Because of the type of work being done in the structure, paints, thinners, and other combustable materials aided in the spread of and intensity of the fire.

The fire was declared under control around 14:00, although defensive operations and overhaul continued to the early evening. The structure was a total loss.

Units from Castle Rock Fire and Rescue, South Metro Fire, and Parker Fire fought the fire. Additional departments assisted with tankers, including Larkspur Fire, South Metro Fire & Jackson 105 Fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
