N.C. Firefighter Rescues Entrapped Woman

Shortly after 3 p.m. on May 17, 2010 EMS and Fire Rescue from the Sharpsburg, N.C. Fire Company of Nash County were dispatched to Rt. 301 for a reported accident with entrapment. Fire dispatch updated the responding units that they were receiving 911 calls for an overturned vehicle that was down an embankment and upside down in a creek with entrapment. Police were not on location to confirm the entrapment.

Fire dispatch updated the responding units that they were receiving 911 calls for an overturned vehicle that was down an embankment and upside down in a creek with entrapment. Police were not on location to confirm the entrapment.

Two police officers and Sharpsburg Vol. Firefighter Thomas Gibson descended down a 20-foot embankment into the water to reach the overturned vehicle. They were able to free a female occupant, and the EMS unit on location treated the victim and transported her to Nash General Hospital.

Sharpsburg Fire Chief Randall Collie praised the police and the firefighter for their quick action in going into the creek to rescue the woman. The fire company remained on the scene until police were able to remove the vehicle.
