Virginia FD Responds to Big Rig Crash

Hillsville, Va. - The truck driver escaped serious injuries after multiple other truck drivers stopped to help him out of his tangled rig, after he lost control of the vehicle. The driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel, sending his tractor-trailer down the embankment. According to witnesses, after the driver crossed the bridge at exit 14 North bound, he went off to the right, crossing the on-ramp for the North bound traffic, and then went through the guard railing and down over the embankment.

The driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel, sending his tractor-trailer down the embankment.

According to witnesses, after the driver crossed the bridge at exit 14 North bound, he went off to the right, crossing the on-ramp for the North bound traffic, and then went through the guard railing and down over the embankment.

The HVFD quickly dug a trench and put down oil dry to keep about eighty gallons of fuel from reaching the creek below. The Virginia State Police are investigating the accident.
