Salem, Massachusetts firefighters led by Deputy Chief Brian Harrington battled not only flames, but the elements, trying to control a raging 3-alarm fire.

Salem, Massachusetts firefighters led by Deputy Chief Brian Harrington battled not only flames, but the elements, trying to control a raging 3-alarm fire.

The fire was reported at 4:19 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2005.

The temperature was hovering around 3 below zero, with over three feet of snow on the ground. Firefighters were hampered by snow covered and frozen hydrants in the area.

Three alarms were struck in rapid succession.

The fire took place is a very congested neighborhood, but firefighters held the fire to the building of origin. The fire destroyed the large 2-family house at 74 Endicott Street. Fire investigators suspect the fire was caused by a faulty space heater.

No serious injuries were reported and three occupants were displaced.
