Va. Man Rescued from Water

  Stafford, VA – The Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department, joined by Fredericksburg Fire Department personnel rescued a victim from the swollen and rapid moving Rappahannock River on Monday, March 15 at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Units were dispatched at approximately 8:40 p.m. for a Water Rescue, located near the Route 95 overpass in Stafford. First arriving personnel were informed by Virginia State Police of a probable victim located in the water, approximately 100 feet below the bridge. Upon locating the conscious male patient clinging to a rock in the river, firefighters performed a rescue using a rope system and rescue swimmers to reach the patient. He was successfully removed from the river and transported by paramedics to Mary Washington Hospital.

No injuries to fire and rescue personnel were reported.
