Members from the Thompsonville Fire Department responded to a reported Structure Fire at approximately 1444 hrs. on 12/7/02, in a 3 story, multi-family house on Enfield Street.

Upon arrival, fire was showing out of the 2nd floor, A-B corner of the structure.

Members of TFD made an initial attack of the fire while the North Thompsonville Fire Department was called for mutual aid.

Ladder-41 from the NTFD responded and set up operations in front of the structure.

Soon thereafter, mutual aid companies from the Enfield, Hazardville, and Shaker Pines Fire Depts. were also called to the scene.

A short time into the call, while 1 TFD member and 4 NTFD members were making their way into the 3rd floor, the 3rd floor A-B corner erupted in a backdraft fireball, injuring those firefighters.

All the injured firefighters were removed from the structure, initially treated at the scene and transported to the hospital.

All were released later that day, 4 having suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns and 1 having suffered smoke inhalation.

The evacuation signal was sounded and all firefighters left the building.

L-41 then went to work, putting out a majority of the fire, before handlines were again brought into the fire building, finishing off the job.
