Units in the third battalion contained a dramatic evening fire that destroyed a house on the corner of Mississippi Ave. and Wheeler Rd., SE.

Fire/EMS units were dispatched at 8:18 PM for the house fire. Engines 32 and 33 arrived to heavy fire visible from the roof and all floors of the two-and-a-half story brick home. Firefighters' efforts were hampered by doors that were deadbolted. The home was under renovation, and it appeared work was being done both in the basement and in a back deck area.

As firefighters began an interior attack, it became evident that fire had spread to all floors. Acting swiftly, firefighters advanced handlines to the second floor and knocked the fire down from the inside.

Investigators have determined the fire is electrical in nature. Damage is estimated at $125,000.
