On Decemeber 5, 2004 the Suffolk, Virginia Department of Fire & Rescue responded to a an early morning blaze that destroyed a two story wood frame residence in the Saratoga neighborhood.
Two occupants, one in a wheelchair, escaped the rapidly spreading fire prior to the fire department arrival.
Balloon construction contributed to the rapid fire spread. Fire crews were faced with the entire front of the structure involved in fire with extension into the first, second floor rooms including the attic. An aggresive interior attack had the fire under control in under thirty minutes.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded with 14 personnel manning 2 engines, 1 ladder, 1 squad and 1 battalion chief. Crews remained on scene for over 3 hours.
