At 1:38 a.m. on August 13, a building fire was dispatched in Camden City at 4th and Spruce Streets.

The assignment included Engine 8, Engine 6, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1.

While companies were responding, a third engine was dispatched as Camden County Communications were receiving multiple calls.

Battalion 1 arrived on location and reported a three-story church with heavy smoke showing. He directed Engine 8's crew to secure a water supply and for the Ladder Company to force entry into the building.

Fine minutes later, he asked for a second-alarm. There was heavy fire on the second floor with all windows and doors secured.

The orders were given to evacuate the building and set up for defensive operations.

The water department was notified to increase pressure.

At 1:59 p.m., a third-alarm was struck.

At the 30 minute mark, command reported heavy fire conditions extending to the third floor and the roof.

At 2:25 p.m., the fourth alarm was struck.

Command reported heavy fire conditions with three tower ladders operating making little progress. A collapse of the second floor occurred.

At 3:42 p.m., the fire was placed under control.

Mutual aid from Westmont, Gloucester City, Pennsauken and Audubon were called. Cherry Hill Rehab and Camden County ISAT were also called to the scene.

There were no injuries reported on the fire ground.

Demolition crews were on the scene late morning removing the upper floors. Camden City fire investigator stated it is unknown if they will be able to determine a cause due to the building's structural condition.

The first floor consisted of the church with meeting and assembly rooms above. The Spanish church, House of Restoration and Healing, moved into the property two years ago. They planned to rebuild.
