Transformer Fire Battled by FDNY

On Friday, July 24, FDNY units responded to a raging fire in a Con Edison electrical transformer in the Douglaston area of Queens. Due to numerous concerns and nearby residential homes, fire officials transmitted multiple alarms which brought special units from throughout the city. FDNY Hazardous Materials units were quickly on the scene to evaluate and work with utility representatives to contain and control the blaze. Department operations lasted more than two hours before the incident was declared under control.
