Maryland Firefighters Rescue Injured Construction Worker

Crews found the worker in the third floor of the building

On Monday, March 3, Wicomico County Central alerted Station 16 (Salisbury) for the injured person and medical assist at a construction site on Fitzwater Street.

The initial report stated that a worker had fallen approximately 11 feet and would be located on the first floor.

After Engine 161 and Paramedic 161 arrived, crews located the patient on the third floor of the building under construction. Assistant Chief J. Gladwell, having also responded on the alarm, sent an aide back to quarters for the department's ladder truck.

As Truck 16 proceeded to the scene, the engine company and paramedics began assessing and treating the patient as well as packaging him in a stokes basket. Truck 16 arrived and after positioning and laddering the third floor, the crews removed the patient down the aerial where he was then transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

The City of Salisbury Police Department and MOSHA are investigating the cause of the accident.
