New Jersey Crews Battle House Fire

March 24, 2008
Firefighters went into defensive mode.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on March 11, Task Force 5 was dispatched to 122 Crescent in Woodbury, N.J. for a dwelling fire.

County Communications advised units they received a call reporting a neighbor hearing a smoke alarm sounding from the property across the street and seeing smoke.

First arriving firefighters reported a vacant single-family dwelling. Command arrived and reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the second floor.

Companies stretched two hand lines to the second floor. The fire marshal and utilities were requested.

Several minutes later, the tones were sounded for two possibly missing firefighters.

Accountability was taken, and all firefighters were OK.

At 11:25 p.m., command reported the fire through the roof. Multiple mutual aid companies were brought into the scene.

Crews had several hand lines in service from the exterior as the truck company set up to go in service with the master stream.

Companies operated in defensive attack for an extended time.

Command reported the bulk of the fire knocked after midnight.

No firefighter injuries were reported.

The dwelling was reported to be up for sale.
