Accident with Entrapment in Pennsylvania

On Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 10:22 A.M., the Derrick City Volunteer Fire Department and the Bradford City Fire Department Paramedic Ambulance were dispatched to a reported two vehicle head-on collision on Derrick Road. Dispatchers advised the ambulance crew that one patient was lying in the roadway and that another was entrapped.

Bradford City Paramedic/Firefighter Cory Migliaccio requested that two medical helicopters be placed on stand-by. Derrick City responded with one engine and one rescue truck with ten firefighters. While patient assessment was being completed, Paramedic Migliaccio requested another paramedic ambulance from Bradford City and that both helicopters are sent to a landing zone at the Bradford Mall. Mercy Flight of Western New York helicopters were dispatched from Olean and Buffalo, New York.

Derrick City firefighters used hydraulic jaws to extricate the driver of one of the vehicles. Derrick City Chief James Kelly requested mutual aid from the Limestone, NY, Volunteer Fire Department to secure the landing zone for the helicopters along with another engine from Derrick City. Both drivers were transported to the landing zone by ambulance and were flown by Mercy Flight helicopters to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY.
