Fire at Ft. Mead Army Center in Anne Arundel County. Maryland

Just before 4:00 PM, Friday October 20, units from Fort Mead Fire Department were dispatched to building 4554 at 4554 Liewellyn Avenue on the ground of Fort Mead for a reported building fire.

Just before 4:00 PM, Friday October 20, units from Fort Mead Fire Department were dispatched to building 4554 at 4554 Liewellyn Avenue on the ground of Fort Mead for a reported building fire.

When units arrived on the scene they reported heavy fire showing from the roof of a three-story 300 x100ft building which contains the 902nd Military Intelligence Group Command.

A third alarm was transmitted immediately bring over 50 more firefighters from Anne Arundel County to battle the blaze.

When units from Anne Arundel Couty arrived on the scene, Battalion Chief Four from Anne Arundel County Fire Department requested three additional alarms to be transmitted bring ovver 150 more firefighters from Bowie, Savage, Severna Park, Linthicum, Glen Burnie, Shady Side as well of other firefighters from Anne Aundel, Howard and Prince George's County to help extingish the fire.

Smoke from the burning building could be seen from as far as Southern Baltimore.

The fire is not place under contol unit early this morning, it was reported that workers had been working on the roof of the building.

No civilians injured, but one firefighter suffered minor injuries to his leg, he was transported to a local hospital.
