At approximately 8:43 p.m. on May 15, the crew of Nassau County Police Department Helicopter 4 notified the eighth precinct of a house fire with heavy fire through the roof in the vicinity of Blacksmith Road in Levittown.

First arriving Levittown firefighters reported a working fire.

Due to an extreme amount of rubbish in the house, the first due engine company couldn't make it inside the front door. As companies made a push, they encountered more trash on the stairwell leading to the second floor. Conditions rapidly deteriorated and command pulled all units out for a defensive attack.

Extensive mutual aid was requested from the sixth and ninth battalions. Two firefighters were transported to Nassau University Medical Center.
