Pets Rescued from Ore. Apartment Fire

Dec. 16, 2012

Three fire departments responded to a fire in a 12-unit apartment building in Clackamas on Dec. 15.

Clackamas, Portland, and Gladstone firefighters responded to 13608 SE 97th when 911 callers reported "intense flames and smoke from the exterior deck on the second floor" at 11:41 a.m.

As fire apparatus arrived, people were seen throwing wrapped Christmas gifts out of the second floor.

Due to the high life hazard of the three-story apartment structure, firefighters called for a second alarm response.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze in 20 minutes and no injuries were reported.

Several dogs were safely rescued by firefighters during the incident.
