Nash County firefighters found a dwelling fully involved on Oct. 4.

Shortly after 10 p.m. , Nash County 911 center received a call from a resident that she could see flames coming out the rear of their home and that they were getting the dogs out of the home.

As fire companies from Salem, Red Oak, Castalia and Nash County EMS units were dispatched, the resident called 911 again to say they could only get two of the dogs out and two others were still in the home.

Red Oak Engine 12 was first on location and reported a large one-story frame dwelling fully involved. Firefighters were faced with two large propane tanks near the house and vehicles parked in the rear yard.

It took 26 firefighters over one hour using numerous 2 1/2-inch and 1 3/4-inch hoselines to bring the blaze under control.

Three tankers were used to shuttle water to the scene.

Nash EMS units were used for rehab.

The homeowner reported the next day that two dogs perished in the blaze.
