Photo Story: N.C. Crews Rescue Woman from Fire

Gastonia firefighters found the elderly female unconscious and rescued her through a window.

At 3:26 pm on Nov. 25, the Gastonia Fire Department received a dispatch of a reported structure fire at 1327 Jay Avenue in Gastonia.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to a one-story residential structure, with heavy smoke and flames showing.

Firefighters entered the structure and found the occupant of the home, an elderly female, unconscious inside the structure. Crews rescued the woman by bringing her out of a window, and immediately administered life support.

Gastonia firefighters extinguished the flames in approximately 20 minutes.

The occupant of the home was transported by Gaston Emergency Medical Services to Caromont Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries. She was later transfered to the Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center.

A total of 25 personnel and five apparatus worked the call.

The cause of the fire, which caused $40,000 in damage, is being investigated by the Gastonia Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
