Companies 44, 13 and 43 were dispatched for a reported building fire at Granite Terrace and Thompson Street and police confirmed a working fire.
44-9 reported arrived to find a single-family dwelling well involved and was told someone might be trapped in the home.
Companies advanced several handlines into the building and knocked the fire as multiple ventilation holes were cut.
The home owner attempted to start several fires in the basement and first floor with containers of accelerant and then went to the second floor where he shot and killed himself.
