A fire blamed on unattended cooking left one dog dead at a Lincoln apartment building April 22.

One occupant was rescued from a second floor apartment where the fire started from food left cooking unattended in the kitchen. Two cats and the dog were also rescued from the apartment.
Firefighters Steve Dyer and Bryson Monroe worked for 20 minutes to revive the dog, but were unsuccessful.
Engine 1 Capt. Mark Majors rescued a cat trapped between the window and screen in the kitchen window.
Lincoln crews were able to confine the fire to the apartment of origin under the command of Battalion Chief Bopp
Officials estimate that the fire caused $50,000 in damage.
