The Leader's Toolbox: Reputation Management and the 'Dark Side'

Dr. Richard B. Gasaway talks with fire officers and professionals about reputation management for the fire service, based on the 2010 white paper released by the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association (CVVFA).

Guests include Steve Austin with CVVFA, former Washington D.C. Community Affairs Officer Billy Hayes and Charles A. (Chad) Weinstein of Ethical Leader's in Action.

The group looks at several cases where an entire fire department thrust into the spotlight because of a single firefighter's irresponsible actions. They discuss the actions that firefighters and officers carry out to assure that responders are seen in a positive light.

The group examines at the role of ethics in personnel management and personal actions.

Richard Gasaway

Richard B. Gasaway, PhD, CSP is an authority on human factors, situational awareness and the high-risk decision-making processes that are used in high-stress, high-consequence work environments. He served 33 years as a firefighter, EMT-paramedic, company officer, training officer, fire chief and emergency incident commander. Gasaway's doctoral research included the study of cognitive neuroscience to understand how human factors flaw situational awareness and affect high-risk decision-making. He authored six books, and his contributions on situational awareness and decision-making are featured and referenced in more than 400 publications. Gasaway's training programs have been delivered to more than 88,000 students.
