A group of fire officers from California look at tactical and command priorities for fires involving strip malls.
Division Chief Ed Hadfield talks with Santa Rosa Captain Wes Kitchel, Riverside City Captain Jennifer McDowell and Captain Chris Vaughn from Salinas about a number of considerations for fires involving strip malls. Throughout the podcast, the panel uses a strip mall fire scenario to illustrate a number of points.
The group explores first-due tactics, initial command considerations and discusses alarm and resource levels, based on each panelists department. They also talk about a number of tactics, including ventilation, exposure control, water supply and the need for softening the structure for easier access and egress.
Listen as they discuss the use of positive pressure ventilation in other units to keep the fire from spreading, but urges caution about the tactic.
