Feb. 27, 2015
Tom Shand and Michael Wilbur discuss the need for ventilated compartments and common paint and rust issues.

Apparatus Architects Tom Shand and Michael Wilbur talk about the effects of winter weather on driving and fire apparatus maintenance and how paint and rust issues can shorten your apparatus' life span.

They discuss what happens when you add paint to the underbody and chassis of a fire apparatus in area where road treatments are used during the winter. Shand shares some best practices to avoid or stop rust and corrosion on your last $500,000 purchase.

With more departments putting all of their equipment in compartments, Wilbur and Shand say that poor ventilation is causing rust on tools, ladders and other equipment. Listen as they explain how proper airflow in compartments can increase the life of your equipment

The show wraps up with the two addressing paint on emergency vehicles and why you need to evaluate your contract before the next purchase is made.
