Washington D.C. Selects PURVIS Systems for Station Alerting System

Middletown, RI, July 19, 2011 – PURVIS Systems Incorporated, an IT systems and services provider for public safety, emergency management and defense industries, announced today that it has been awarded a $2.63 million contract with the District of Columbia to implement the PURVIS Fire Station Alerting System™ (PURVIS FSAS™). The system is being installed in 37 locations throughout the District, including the Public Safety Command Center (PSCC), the Unified Communication Center (UCC), all 33 Fire Stations, the Fire Boat and the District’s Radio Shop.

The PURVIS Fire Station Alerting System will enhance public safety by providing the District with a modern, Internet Protocol (IP)-based system that delivers effective, reliable and secure communications via state-of-the-art devices and components. It will serve as a replacement to the District’s existing radio-based system which has proven to be unreliable as it nears the end of its economic and practical life.

The District selected PURVIS Systems through a competitive procurement process. PURVIS received the highest overall rating among all vendors evaluated by the District. Evaluation criteria included Price, Technical Solution & Knowledge, Past Performance and Warranty/Support & Maintenance.

The PURVIS FSAS provides visual and audible incident alerts and two-way voice communications between dispatchers and fire and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to assist in reducing response times, enhancing communications and streamlining operating procedures. The system is highly configurable and has been tailored to meet the specific requirements of the District.

PURVIS is interfacing its Fire Station Alerting System with the District’s computer aided dispatch (CAD) and radio systems to fully automate the dispatching of fire and EMS calls. Alerting devices being installed with the system include flat panel displays, multi-colored incident lights, speakers, printers and generic device controls. Ramped audio tones and low intensity lighting will help reduce stress on fire and EMS personnel. Automated real-time system monitoring and built-in redundancy throughout every aspect of the system will ensure a high level of system reliability and availability.

The PURVIS FSAS is easily expandable so that additional components such as turnout timers, personal alerting devices, scrolling light-emitting diode (LED) displays and egress lighting can be added by the District over time if desired. Automated control of other existing generic devices in and around a fire station can also be added to the system at any time. Examples include automatically opening garage bay doors, turning of stoves or other appliances and changing traffic signals outside a station when an incident is received.

PURVIS Systems’ teammates under this contract include Integrated Management Solutions (IMS) and DataNet Systems Corporation. IMS is responsible for project management, system testing and training of end-users. DataNet is providing system installation and maintenance services.
