New York Firefighter, Explorer Lauded by County Association

Rush Fire Department's Past Chief Al Sweet was awarded the "Distinguished Service" award by the county and Jenna Cirincione was awarded with the counties "Explorer Award."

The Monroe County Volunteer Firefighters Association has awarded the 2009 "Distinguished Service" award to Past Chief Al Sweet of the Rush Fire Department. This award goes to one Monroe County firefighter who has contributed to their department and the county above and beyond the call of duty over the years.

Al has been very active in Rush for over 58 years as well as the county and state fire organizations. He is past president of the Monroe County Fire Chiefs Association. Al is presently on The Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Youth in the Fire Service committee. He was presented this award at the Monroe County Annual Dinner, held on May 9. Fifteen members of the Rush Fire Department were in attendance.

The Monroe County Volunteer Firefighters Associations annual "Explorer Award" was presented to Rush Explorer Jenna Cirincione at the Explorers recognition dinner, held at Monroe Ambulance on May 14. One explorer is selected from the many posts after being nominated by their home post. Over 100 explorers and adults attended the dinner.

The events emcee, Monroe County Fire Coordinator Sam DeRosa, stated he got his start in the fire service in the explorer program.
