CHARLOTTE, North Carolina - July 12, 2004 - CHIEF, a nationwide supplier of public safety equipment and apparel for America's first responders, today announced the launch of its new program, CHIEF Direct, a unique community based initiative designed to support Volunteer Fire Departments in their fundraising efforts.

CHIEF Direct provides hassle-free outreach and fundraising support to Volunteer Fire Departments by donating 10 percent of sales from its web site www.chief-direct.com to the customers' local VFD of choice. The site offers collectibles, home safety items, recreational items and personalized gifts, all of which are also available through its catalog. To maximize the program's fundraising potential, departments just need to connect their community to www.chief-direct.com or to a catalog for product selection and the fundraising begins.

"We at CHIEF are dedicated to supporting our customers as much as possible in receiving the funding that they deserve," says Jeff Tousa, president of CHIEF. "We started this initiative because we found there was a critical need for programs that would support Volunteer Fire Departments and alleviate the time pressures associated with fundraising."

Volunteer Fire Departments can get this program working for them in three easy steps:

  1. To get started, they need to make sure their department is on the list by going to www.chief-direct.com and clicking on Department Search. When community members place orders, they are asked to select the volunteer fire department in their city when they check-out. If no department is available, they are asked to select one from a surrounding area.

  2. Then, Volunteer Fire Departments can start driving their community to www.chief-direct.com. By accessing a sub-page of the site at www.chief-direct.com/dept, fire service professionals can download flyers that can be personalized with their department's name. Once printed, these official flyers can be a useful marketing tool in the community.

  3. Another way to drive the community to www.chief-direct.com is for the departments to download banner ads onto department web sites. These ads are simple to download, making it even simpler for the fundraising process to begin. The selection of banners and implementation procedures are located on the site.

Since many fire service professionals manage busy schedules, CHIEF Direct also offers a service where it will conduct direct mailings for departments. If the department provides CHIEF with a community mailing list, CHIEF will work with the department to share the costs of distributing postcards mailers and/or catalogs.

"CHIEF Direct is specifically designed to drive community dollars directly to volunteer fire departments at a time when funding options are more in demand than ever," says Tousa, president of CHIEF. "We're here to help, and we hope everyone will take advantage of these resources."
