The FDNY Foundation received a generous $63,000 donation from 5.11 Tactical Clothing Company on Jan. 24, in remembrance of the 9/11 tragedy.
"You just blew us away with your generosity," Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said during the presentation at FDNY Headquarters. "This check will be put to very good use."
The California-based company designed a logo in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks, which included images of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the number 93 (representing Flight 93) coupled with the words "Never Forget."
Hats, shirts and briefcases featuring the logo were sold in 2011 on 5.11 Tactical's website (www.511Tactical.com) and at the FDNY Fire Zone Store (34 W. 51st St., Manhattan).
At the ceremony, Commissioner Cassano announced that the funds will be divided evenly between Fire and EMS Operations for the purposes of education, training and equipment.
"We wanted to show you that we haven't forgotten and that we care," Founder of 5.11 Tactical Dan Costa said. "And these products have been sold around the world."
He noted that 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of these products is being donated to worthy causes. The FDNY Foundation received two-thirds of the proceeds, and the remainder was donated to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
"On behalf of all our uniformed members, I want to say thank you, thank you so much," Chief of Department Edward Kilduff said.
