OneStep Earns CERS Vendor Compliance Certification

Nov. 21, 2013

OneStep Systems is pleased to announce that it has completed developing and passing the Tier II (2) CERS Vendor Compliance Certification. This Vendor Certification helps OneStep's clients needing to be CERS Compliant to process their HAZMAT inspections as per California mandate.

CERS Hazmat Reporting – an efficient electronic solution The California Environmental Agency has successfully implemented the California Environmental Reporting System – CERS.

CERS requires that facilities catalogue the facility’s hazmat and electronically report the results to CERS. CERS then makes this data available to regulators like fire departments who download the data. The regulator’s task is to ensure Compliance by Monitoring and Enforcement - CME.

As a working example: the facility (a gas station) reports electronically to the CERS servers, the regulator (Fire Department) uses OneStep Software to receive the facility information from the CERS servers electronically.

The regulator’s inspector using OneStep Software on a mobile computer manages the CME. When the inspection is completed, the data synchronizes with the regulator’s OneStep database servers which in turn pushes the CME data back to the CERS servers.

A fully electronic, automated solution eliminating the paper forms and records that used to be very cumbersome to store and maintain. Data from the field can be captured in the field utilizing OneStep Web or OneStep Mobile and synchronized wirelessly using cellular 3G+ or WiFi.

Depending upon the availability of wireless connectivity, users can choose Android/Ipad devices or laptops equipped with a wireless card. Not only is the inspection data shared instantly, the inspector is able to spend much longer duration in the field increasing the number of inspections completed before having to return to headquarters.

OneStep is delivering a proven solution and an opportunity for regulators to do more inspections at less cost per inspection. CERS receives the data it needs to minimize the risks to California residents through the efficient use of electronic server to server technology.

“We are very proud to have achieved CERS Tier II (2) Certification. The opportunity to develop and deliver systems that end users value is always rewarding. We are also pleased that we may now enable numerous California Regulators and Fire departments the ability to become CERS compliant utilizing OneStep's Family of Software as per the California Environmental Agency Mandate 2013.” - OneStep Systems Inc. President, Gordon Svenson.

About CERS

The California Environmental Reporting System (CERS) is a statewide web-based system to support California Unified Program Agencies (CUPAs) and Participating Agencies (PAs) in electronically collecting and reporting various hazardous materials-related data as mandated by the California Health and Safety Code and new 2008 legislation (AB 2286). Under oversight by Cal/EPA, CUPAs implement Unified Program mandates that streamline and provide consistent regulatory activities.
