Globe, Dupont and NVFC Name Gear Giveway Winners

Sept. 22, 2014
Departments in Maine and Missouri are Latest Winners in Globe Gear Giveaway as Globe, DuPont and NVFC team up to award 52 sets of gear in 2014.

Globe, DuPont Protection Technologies (DuPont), and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) are pleased to announce two more recipients in the 2014 Globe Gear Giveaway.

The Jamestown (MO) Rural Fire Protection District and the Strong (ME) Fire Department will each receive four sets of new Globe turnout gear. For the third year, Globe, DuPont, and the NVFC have partnered to assist fire departments obtain much-needed gear to enhance the safety and efficiency of their firefighters.

Since the program began in 2012, 223 sets of gear have been awarded to volunteer departments that have demonstrated significant need. Additional awards are being made throughout 2014. To further support the volunteer fire service, Globe has also introduced a discount program for members of the NVFC. Through this program, NVFC members receive a special discount off of the new CLASSIX SE.

This latest turnout gear style from Globe, made with 100 percent DuPont KEVLAR and NOMEX fibers, is ideal for departments looking for a generous, non-restrictive fit at a value price. Click here for more details.

“We thank Globe for taking this extra step to help volunteer firefighters afford new turnout gear,” said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg. “So many departments are in need, and the Globe Gear Giveaway Program along with the NVFC discount program will enable more volunteer firefighters to obtain state-of-the-art gear so they are properly protected when the next call comes.”

The Jamestown Rural Fire Protection District in Missouri is a small district with a large heart. The number of volunteers has nearly tripled in the last 15 years, and the department is struggling to meet the PPE needs of its 36 firefighters. The gear they have ranges between 15-30 years old, and some members don’t have any gear at all.

The department’s lack of adequate gear and SCBA means that they have to call for mutual aid during structure fires. In addition, some of the firefighters are unable to get needed training because they don’t have turnout gear available to them. The donation of four sets of gear from Globe and DuPont will help the department make strides in bringing their PPE up to date and making sure their members have the protection they need.

The Strong Fire Department in Maine has 10 volunteer firefighters that serve an area of 30 square miles. Like many volunteer departments, budget limitations mean they have to do a lot with a little. The volunteers not only give their time and resources to protect their community, they are also very active in community involvement through the local schools and Scouting troops.

Having four sets of new Globe gear donated to the departments means they can better enhance the safety of their volunteers while using their limited funds to purchase other critical equipment.

Gear awards are being made each month through December. Stay tuned to the NVFC web site, Dispatch newsletter, and page on Facebook, as well as the Globe page on Facebook, for additional award announcements and information regarding the Globe Gear Giveaway Program.
