Darley Develops Specialized Disaster Response Vehicle

Nov. 26, 2014
Darley has constructed a new multi-purpose vehicle for use in emergency responses where many critical needs emerge and are in short supply.

W.S. Darley Company unveiled a new specialized vehicle  at the AIDF Disaster Relief Summit in Washington D.C. On December 3rd Darley will present the new vehicle to Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS).

The new vehicle integrates a number of emergency operating capabilities including a medical care service clinic for EMS triage and examination; firefighting capablities with a 250-gpm, 150psi system complete with a Poly tank; a specialized disinfection kit, supplied as a modular components that can effectively avoid cross contamination between different scenes.

The unit is also capable of water purification with a vehicle-mounted system that can produce up to 5,000-gallons of safe drinking water per day. The treatment system is tested to the United States EPA standard for microbiological water purifers to effectively remove particulate, turbidity, bacteria, virus and cysts.

“The Multi-Purpose Vehicle provides immediate solutions for the developing world," said Peter Darley, Chief Operating Officer, W.S. Darley & Company. "This single vehicle can perform multiple tasks across a wide range of unexpected demands. It has the potential to be an operational game changer for the future of Emergency Response.”

While the needs are immediate abroad, MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Chief Jay Reardon believes there are also applications that add value to domestic fire departments.

“The medical triage and examination capability is an interesting concept that can benefit local fire departments," Reardon said. "The integration of these critical functions, especially with high-risk EMS patients, could be advantageous for local EMS teams with budget and staffing issues. A proactive approach to medical home health calls could be an effective method to utilize tax credits that can further benefit budget-sensitive fire departments.”

Darley and MABAS will present the Multi-Purpose Vehicle on December 3, 2014, at 100:00 AM at the MABAS Readiness Center at 233 West Hintz Road, Wheeling, Ill.

Darley encourages anyone in the greater Chicago area to visit the Center and learn more about the future of the Multi-Purpose Vehicle.

The Multi-Purpose Vehicle is a culmination of dedicated work from W.S. Darley & Company, Terranova GTS LLC and Navistar to help bring effective solutions around the world. Terranova GTS LLC is a Chicago-based company that designs and markets Vocational American vehicles.
