DuPont Protection Technologies announced Youngstown Glove Company’s FR Waterproof Ultimate Lined with Kevlar as one of the winners of the 2014 DuPont Kevlar Glove Innovation Awards in conjunction with the 2014 National Safety Council Congress & Expo in San Diego, Calif.
The awards are designed to recognize innovative glove designs from DuPont Kevlar licensees who are meeting evolving marketplace needs.
Winning glove entries were chosen based on designs that utilized Kevlar fiber in the glove construction, were unique and groundbreaking in their approach, and challenged the boundaries of conventional cut protection.
“We were very impressed with the entries and selecting the winners was a difficult task,” said Dave Buzzelli, North American Marketing Manager, Kevlar Cut Protection. “The winners best demonstrated true innovation by using this advanced material in different and exciting ways, exemplifying a Dare Bigger approach with DuPont Kevlar.”
The Youngstown FR Waterproof Ultimate Lined with Kevlar was chosen in part due to the unique technology of offering a waterproof winter glove that is also flame resistant and cut resistant. This glove addressed a growing hand protection need in the electric and gas utility market. The FR Waterproof Ultimate Lined with Kevlar consists of four layers: FR cowhide leather outer, Nomex insulation, waterproof membrane and 100 percent Kevlar liner.
Benefits to the wearer include enhanced protection against cut, flame and arc flash hazards while providing superior comfort and warmth in harsh winter weather.

The Youngstown FR Waterproof Ultimate Lined with Kevlar exceeds updated OSHA standards for Electrical Protective Equipment for Electric Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution - 29 CFR Part 1926 and NFPA 70e – 2015. The glove has an ATPV (Arc Rating) of 55 cal/cm². It exceeds the industry standard for flame resistance according to ASTM D6413. It rates a 4343XX on the EN 407 Heat Testing Scale and has ANSI Level 2 Cut Protection.
