The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and FDNY will remember the nation's bravest with the inaugural National Stair Climb at Citi Field in honor of firefighters killed in the line of duty on Saturday, Oct. 10.
FDNY members as well as firefighters from around the country, as well as grateful citizens, will honor firefighters at the first National Stair Climb for Fallen Firefighters by climbing 2.200 at the field symbolizing the 110 stories FDNY firefighters climbed in the World Trade Center on 9/11.
The event, which commences at 7:30 a.m. with registration, is open to the public and to all ages.
Following registration an opening ceremony begins at 8:40 a.m. and will include FDNY's ceremonial honor guard and bagpipes, Kix Brooks singing "Only in America" live at the event and remarks from FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro, NFFF Executive Director Ron Siarnicki, retired FDNY Firefighter Ray Pfiefer and special guests.
The climb will begin at 9:05 a.m.
The fundraising event will benefit programs that assist the families of fallen firefighters and provide counseling to firefighters and their families following tragic events.
