The City of Seattle and Seattle Fire Department have completed a multi-million dollar purchase of Scott Safety SCBA equipment through the NPPGov / Fire Rescue GPO MES contract.

The City of Seattle and Seattle Fire Department have completed a multi-million dollar purchase of Scott Safety SCBA equipment through the NPPGov / Fire Rescue GPO MES contract. The purchase of the Scott Air-Pak X3 SCBA includes Scott’s 5500 psi cylinder technology, which will provide Seattle firefighters with a significant reduction in cylinder weight and profile. Another added feature is the cylinder Snap-Change technology, a Scott Safety industry first, to support rapid cylinder replacement on the fireground.

Seattle has trained on the new Scott Safety equipment since July and put it into service in November.

“We’re thrilled and honored to welcome the Seattle Fire Department into the Scott Safety family,” said Director of Marketing Jeff Emery. “Our focus is to provide the highest level of service and quality equipment to firefighters, and we are proud that Seattle chose to put their trust in Scott Safety.”

Scott Safety works alongside firefighters to design and build innovative equipment that helps keep them safe in harsh environments. Scott has earned a reputation for it’s reliable, durable products, making them the industry leader in providing value to its customers, and offering the lowest total cost of ownership of SCBA in the industry.

Together, the City of Seattle and the Seattle Fire Department worked on a department-wide upgrade of breathing apparatus that met the current NFPA 1981 standards. This required a major procurement for this mission critical life safety equipment.

“Ensuring our firefighters have the equipment they need to stay safe and perform their jobs is our first priority,” said Assistant Chief A. D. Vickery. “Working with MES allowed us to obtain the gear we needed in the required timeframe.”

Scott Safety is no stranger to Seattle. They are a long-time sponsor of the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb held each spring in Seattle in support of the Washington Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The stairclimb has helped raise more than $12 million since its inception. It is a consistently sold-out event and features 1,900 firefighters from around the world in full turnout gear climbing the 69-flight course of the Columbia Center.
