The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its fourth Training Summit on June 1-2, 2018, in Concord, NC. The NVFC is also asking for presentation proposals for the summit.
The NVFC is now accepting proposals from qualified instructors and speakers for presentations to educate first responders about critical issues in the fire and emergency services. Submit your proposal by January 7, 2018.
The council also announced that pre-registration is now open for the 2018 NVFC Training Summit. Scholarships are available for NVFC Members.
The two-day seminar provides an opportunity to participate in valuable classroom training as well as exchange ideas and best practices with attendees from across the country. The conference is open to all volunteer firefighters, EMTs, department leadership, and other fire department personnel nationwide. Attendees will be able to select six out of 12 breakout sessions to attend, with sessions addressing critical issues in first responder health and safety, recruitment and retention, and fire prevention. The Training Summit provides an opportunity to share ideas and best practices, network, and participate in classroom training regarding first responder health, safety, and fire prevention topics.
Each session will be two hours in length. Examples of relevant presentation topics include, but are not limited to:
- Specific physical health issues, such as cancer or heart disease
- Behavioral health (including suicide, addiction, and PTSD)
- On-the-job safety (such as traffic incident management)
- Personal protective equipment
- Functional fitness
- Fire service family support
- Leadership development
- Volunteer staffing, recruitment, and retention
- Fire prevention
To submit your speaker proposal, complete the form at https://nvfc.wufoo.com/forms/2018-nvfc-training-summit-call-for-presentations by January 7, 2018. A peer review team will evaluate all presentation proposals. Selections will be made based on quality, relevance, focus, practical application, and the presenter’s experience and credentials. Selected presenters will be notified by the end of January. The NVFC will cover travel expenses and provide a stipend for the selected presenters.
