Two buildings in Niagara Falls were extensively damaged by an overnight fire and a third sustained some fire and water damage.

Aug. 30--A fire that swept through several buildings in Niagara Falls overnight remains under investigation.

Firefighters we called to the 1900 block of Walnut Avenue at around 3:30 a.m. Friday where they battled a blaze that caused extensive damage to a pair of buildings.

Fire officials said a third building, located at 610 20th St., also suffered fire and water damage.

Battalion Chief Mark Fontanella said no injuries were reported, adding that authorities are still trying to account for two people with ties to the Walnut Avenue structure where it is believed the fire originated.

Fontanella said four people -- three adults and one child -- who were displaced by the blaze are now being assisted by the American Red Cross. The matter remains under investigation.
