FDNY: Fatal Fire That Injured FFs Intentionally Set

Dec. 9, 2019
No arrests have been made in connection with a blaze at an abandoned house in Queens late last month that killed three squatters and injured four FDNY firefighters.

The three squatters who died in a fire in an abandoned Queens home last month were all victims of a homicide, police said Saturday.

FDNY Fire Marshals and the NYPD’s Arson and Investigation Squad ruled the Nov. 22 fire inside the St. Albans home was intentionally set after a three-week investigation.

No arrests have been made.

Firefighters were called to the small 110th Road home near Farmers Blvd. about 11:50 p.m. After the fire was put out, three men were found dead inside.

Cops ultimately identified the three victims, but their names were not immediately disclosed as they continue to track down family members.

An FDNY spokesman said that the cause and origin of the fire “remains under investigation.”

The victims are believed to be squatters, police and fire sources said. City Buildings Department records show complaints about squatters living in the house since at least 2016.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury after falling through the first floor into the basement, sources said. He was one of four firefighters to suffer minor injuries battling the blaze.
