Rolls of Plastic Burn in Tenn. Fire

THOMPSON'S STATION, Tenn.

Agencies put out a large fire that burned for about 10 hours Monday in the southern area of Williamson County.

Several hundred rolls of black plastic used to prevent erosion caught fire at about 2 a.m. along Pope’s Chapel Road in the Burwood community, according to the Williamson County Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. Crews are working on the Interstate 840 extension at this location.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --

The Channel 4 I-Team has learned that a Nashville fire captain has been removed from his position and could lose his job after he was caught broadcasting himself on a pornographic webcam site while on duty.

Someone who was communicating with Capt. Jeff Piercy through the webcam alerted the Channel 4 I-Team and told fire officials about the incident.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

A firefighter was taken to a hospital after battling a fire at a Nashville home.

The South Harpeth Road house caught fire late Wednesday morning, according to the Nashville Fire Department. The home is a total loss.

The firefighter, whose name wasn't immediately released, was transported to Vanderbilt. He had minor injuries but will recover, the department said.

COLUMBIA, Tenn.

Rescue teams pulled off a tricky and dangerous rescue. But after they saved a man from a grain silo, he disappeared.

Emergency workers spent more than an hour Monday at the silo on Hayes Denton Road in Columbia. They had to lower a harness into the silo, and with a firefighter in there to help, the man was pulled to safety.

But as soon as he was on the ground, he took off.

Authorities didn't get his name and don't know how he became trapped.

Aug. 16--KNOXVILLE -- Two suspects are in custody following an extended chase involving an off-duty volunteer firefighter, a Knox County Sheriff's Office helicopter and Knoxville Police Department cruisers this afternoon.

The incident initially was reported just after 2 p.m. as a possible burglary, according to KCSO spokeswoman Martha Dooley.

The firefighter, whose name has not been released, arrived at his Tipton Station Road home to find a white, Buick sedan pulling out of his driveway.

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. --

A Marine reservist from Cheatham County has died in Afghanistan.

Daniel Greer, 25, was involved in an improvised explosive device accident on Friday. Greer worked as a firefighter in Ashland City.

Greer's family has traveled to Germany to escort his body back to Tennessee.

"He's a true hero. Everything he ever wanted to do was to help people," said Greer's aunt Lisa Taylor.

Greer graduated from Harpeth High School. He is the oldest of three children.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --

A man nearly lost his life after jumping off the Shelby Street pedestrian bridge in Nashville at about 11 p.m. Friday.

Police said the man fell 90 feet from the bridge to the Cumberland River.

Firefighters said the impact would have felt like hitting a concrete wall.
