The department was formed in 1909 with Chief Fred Cole serving as it's first chief. The first motorized pumper was a 1931 Pirsch. Now the department has 8 pieces of equipment housed in one station located in the Village of Orfordville. The fire district consists of: Village of Orfordville, Townships of Spring Valley, Avon, Newark, and Plymouth.
