The man suffered broken bones after falling down the manhole while walking in Houston's Near Northside early last Tuesday.

Houston firefighters rescued a man who fell 30 feet down a manhole in the Near Northside on Tuesday morning.

The man fell into the open manhole as he was walking behind the Loves Travel Stop on Patton near Interstate 45, around 1:30 a.m.

District Chief Ed Llewellyn said the man fell about 30 feet, and witnesses called the police.

A firefighter then went down the manhole and brought the man up with ropes, Llewellyn said.

He was taken to the hospital with broken bones and other injuries sustained from the fall, Metro Video reported.
