Photos: MN Crews Rescue Teen after River Bluff Fall

"He was fortunate enough to land on a ledge," said a St. Paul fire official after firefighters used ropes to pull up a teen who fell 15 to 20 feet down a Mississippi River bluff.

A teenager fell 15 to 20 feet down a Mississippi River bluff Wednesday afternoon, and St. Paul firefighters used ropes to bring him to safety.

Firefighters, who were called to the 600 block of Mississippi River Boulevard about 2:15 p.m., quickly set up rigging, said Deputy Fire Chief Roy Mokosso.

“He was fortunate enough to land on a ledge,” but there was an additional 20 to 30 feet drop beyond and firefighters were concerned about him falling farther, Mokosso said.

Another teen who was with him called her parent. A call was then made to a parent of the teen who fell, and his father came to the area.

“He was concerned and realized that 9-1-1 needed to be called and made the call,” Mokosso said.

Paramedics took the teen to the hospital to be treated for fall-related injuries.
