Crews from two rescue companies were needed to free an occupant from the pickup that was resting on its side in Whitakers.

One person was extricated from an Aug. 12 crash in Whitakers. 

Firefighters from Nash County stations 10 (Whitakers Volunteer Fire Department) and 3 (Stoney Creek Rescue) were dispatched along with Nash County EMS to NC Highway 33 around 3:20 p.m.  

A Whitaker firefighter who arrived in his personal vehicle relayed to incoming units that there was entrapment within the pickup that left the road and was on its side. 

Crews from Squad 10 and Engine 10 stabilized the vehicle using and deployed a hoseline. Rescue 3's crew deployed additional extrication gear. 

The driver's door was removed to allow Nash County EMS personnel access and begin patient care.

Crews determined that the front passenger seat would have to be removed along with the passenger door, windshield, side and rear glass and roof.

The patient was transported by  Vidant East Care Helicopter to an area trauma center for treatment of their injuries.

A firefighter was treated by Nash County EMS and transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury.
