CT Crews Pull Three from SUV, Truck Head-On Collision

Fairfield firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to search the woods around Black Rock Turnpike for victims who might have been thrown from the overturned pickup truck.

FAIRFIELDThree people were injured in a head-on collision involving an SUV and a large pickup truck on Black Rock Turnpike on shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said a 2016 black Dodge Ram pickup truck —driven by a Stamford man—had been traveling north when it crossed over the double yellow lines and collided head on into the SUV that was traveling south on Black Rock Turnpike.

The 41-year-old driver was only occupant in the Dodge Ram truck. The driver, who was not identified, was transported by AMR Ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital for minor physical injuries.

The two female occupants in the SUV were transported to St. Vincent’s Medical center for minor injuries.Firefighters and police officers using thermal imaging cameras worked together to search the wooded area along Black Rock Turnpike for additional victims that may have been thrown out of the overturned pickup truck.

"Firefighters, police officers, and the medics from AMR did an excellent job quickly working together at the accident scene, providing emergency medical treatment, rapid extrication from an overturned vehicle and a heavily damaged SUV, and rapid transport to the hospital," Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola, the incident commander, said. "This was a job well done by all first responders!"

This collision is under investigation by the Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
